88 Minutes

A psychiatrist who was involved in the conviction of a psychopathic killer is called, the day before the killer is scheduled to be executed, to investigate another murder committed in the same method, which gives the convicted murderer a chance of getting a stay of execution and even a retrial and an acquittal. Is this a copycat-murderer (see the wonderful Movie "Copycat"), or did murderer have an accomplice following in his footsteps, or maybe, God forbid, the convicted murderer is actually innocent?

The psychiatrist, convinced of the murderer's guilt, starts to investigate (Why? Not so clear, his police-officer friend can do the job just fine), and suddenly he gets a mysterious phone call informing him that he has 88 minutes to live. Why 88 minutes? That will become clear later.

This marks the beginning of a chase story reminiscent of Harrison Ford's "The Fugitive", the bodies pile up, the psychiatrist gets in deeper and deeper and ends up becoming a murder suspect himself, and those around him (mostly of the female persuasion – a Dean, a teaching assistant, a student who is not a student and a loyally devoted secretary) change their skin and turn against him with a confusing speed.

There are any holes in the script, including a classic case of a pistol hanging on the wall in the first act and not firing in the fifth act. Somebody tell me why Al Pacino needs, in his old age, to become an action star. Why does he hide his advanced age behind an ugly beard and four actresses who could all be his daughters - Leelee Sobieski, Alicia Witt, Amy Brennerman and Deborah Kara Unger), if not his granddaughters (he even has to make it clear to one of them that he is interested only in her brains, not her body; he goes to a prostitute for sex)? Why is the only male student who has a significant role in the plot portrayed as a complete idiot, why is the fact that the first murder was commited on the the day of Princess Diana's death so emphasize if it has no significance, and why are they trying to insinuate there was something improper going on between him and the victim's hot twin sister, if it never happened?
