Pacific Hights

A young couple, Melanie Griffith ("Stormy Monday") and Matthew Modine ("Birdie", "Equinox") buys a big and expensive hous. The house has two apartments and the couple hopes to be able pay off the mortgage with the rent money. One of the apartments is rented by a nice Japanese couple, and the second to a person who only appears nice at first (Michael Keaton - "Beetlejuice", "Batman"). He promises to pay the rent in advance and on time, but soon strange things begin to happen in the apartment, and simultaneously the true nature of the new tenant is revealed. The young couple slowly loses their property, his sanity, and almost their lives, but it turns out that the law is on the intruder's side. The wife decides to fight back and get rid of him once and for all. The twist, which happens roughly in the fourth quarter of the Movie, leading to the surprising ending.

Matthew Modine is not as good as he was in "Birdie" and in "Equinox". Melanie Griffith is good, Michael Keaton is his usual bloodcurdling self in the role of two-faced psychopath. Anyone following TV police dramas will see familiar faces among the supporting players. Not recommended for lovers of humor and owners of apartments for rent.
